Taking care of your skin is really good but the question is are you doing it right ? There are thou- sands of skincare products available on the market but the question is which ones are good for your skin type and which ones are not? You could possibly have an array of skincare products in your cupboard but you still make some mistakes when using them. Here are 6 Mistakes that you probably make with your skin.
1.Choosing the wrong products for your skin type
Not all products are suitable for all skin types. You have to choose products that are specifically designed for your skin. If your skin is dry, select products that will give you extra moisture such as oils and serums. On the other hand if you have oily skin, opt for products that have salicylic acid and make sure your products are non comedogenic and non acneiginic so that they can nourish your face without clogging pores. Non- comedogenic oils include avocado oil, prickly pear seed oil or Moringa oils. If your skin is sensitive you have to be extra careful with what ingredients you feed it. Check carefully the ingredient list to make sure the product is fragrance free and also make sure the product doesn't have harsh chemicals.
2. Sleeping with Make up on
Sleeping with make up on is a very bad idea. It will clog your pore and cause breakouts. It can also dry out your skin and cause redness and sensitivity. Sleeping in your make up can increase your exposure to free radicals which will lead your skin to age faster. If you are too tired to do your night skincare routine , at least remove your make up with a wipe.
3. Applying a lot of a product
We all wish that the more product we apply on our face the faster our skin would look clearer and smoother but that will just remain wishful thinking. In fact putting too much product on your skin is never a good idea and it will take time to get rid of all your skincare concern. Less is more when it comes to your skincare products. A pea sized amount of your skincare is more than enough to co- ver your whole face. Using a lot of the product would simply be a waste of money.
4. Combining the wrong products together
Us women tend to get super excited about buying a new skincare product that we heard about on Instagram or simply read an awesome review about. This new product you just ordered could be good on its own however will it fit in your skincare routine? You have to remember that some ingredients do not work well together and therefore could increase irritation to your skin.
For example, Retinol and Vitamin C do not play nice with each other. Alone Retinol is an excellent ingredient, same as the vitamin C used alone, However combining the two of them might not be the best choice for your skin. A solution could be to apply vitamin C during the day and retinol in
the evening. The bottom line is when you order a new product, check all the ingredients that it has and do some research about what they can and can’t be mixed with for optimum skin results.
5. The order is important
The order you do your skincare routine really matters. You can’t put your eye cream, and then cleanse your face but that seems logical right. You would be surprised to know that a lot of people get the order wrong. In the morning start with cleansing , Serum or toner , moisturiser or oil then finish with sunscreen. In the evening start with cleansing, serum or toner, retinol then finish with a moisturiser or oil. It is also very important to wait about 30 seconds to 1 minute between products so that each product can penetrate fully.
6. Leaving your skin bare for long after cleansing
Cleansing is very good for your skin however it is not enough. In fact as soon as you cleanse, you need to tone and then moisturise your skin. If you leave your skin bare for long after cleansing, it will dehydrate and the moisture will leave your skin. Pick a toner which is alcohol free such as the Rose Water mist and then use a moisturiser or an oil or both.
